Boston Blockchain Events Week of April 12

Blockchain charts and graphs.

Don’t miss this week’s BBA meetup, which will feature blockchain legend, Bobby Lee! He’ll be talking about the coming release of his new book “THE PROMISE OF BITCOIN: THE FUTURE OF MONEY AND HOW IT CAN WORK FOR YOU”. We promise this is going to be amazing, and you won’t want to miss it. We look forward to seeing you this Thursday.

We at the BBA are happy to announce the launch of Gateway to Blockchain Entrepreneurship: Summer 2021!

The program launch is in direct response to the idea that talent (specifically non-technical) is left out of the blockchain ecosystem due to unnecessary barriers. Rather than being curriculum-driven, “The Gateway” exposes students to the blockchain ecosystem through applied learning and human-centric interaction: enabling students to envision how their own skills and background can provide value in the space. This program is designed to welcome students of all backgrounds, genders, and career interests to the possibilities of blockchain technology.

The program launches June 1st and spans nine weeks. Each week will consist of a one-hour speaker series delivered by a Blockchain Startup Founder, Business Leader, or Venture Capitalist discussing their own experience, networking, and advice on a part of the startup conception process.

If you are an undergraduate in the Greater Boston Area (of any concentration) and excited/interested in Blockchain please APPLY AT THE LINK BELOW. Applications will be accepted until Midnight (ET) on April 25 but will be reviewed on a rolling basis with limited spots available. Additionally, if you are a member of the blockchain industry and are interested in getting yourself or your organization involved, please contact bostonblockchainassociation@gmail.com.

All you have to do is apply to become a member (takes just a minute of your time) to be sure you’ll stay informed on all Boston area blockchain events. Blockchain technology is the future of many global industries. Get involved in the future.

We’d also appreciate it if you could take a moment of your time to complete a short (30 second) survey to help us improve your experience with the Boston Blockchain Association in the future. You can access the survey here. Thank you in advance for your time and attention.

One of our BBA blockchain members is Algorand and they’ve really been increasing their presence in the industry by joining the non-fungible token (NFT) revolution. Check out their recent accomplishments:

SIAE, one of the largest collective rights management organizations, launched more than 4 Million NFTs on Algorand to create new economic models and provide end-to-end rights protection for nearly 100,000 creators. A visionary use case for NFTs as the future of finance accelerates. Check out this new guide that dives into non-fungible tokens and explores Algorand’s potential to lead this emerging industry.

Virtual event

Boston Blockchain Events Week of March 29, 2021

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The biggest event for Boston Bitcoin enthusiasts will be the 8th annual MIT Bitcoin Expo, presented by the MIT Bitcoin Club. This year the event is virtual and completely free! Scheduled for April 3 and 4, registered attendees will receive access to the Expo discord server, a Proof of Attendance token drop, a live Q&A board, and more! This year’s theme is The New Normal in acknowledgment of Bitcoin and blockchain moving into mainstream adoption over the past year.

We’d also like to give a shout-out to Esprezzo, a Boston-based decentralized finance (DeFi) startup building data automation tools. The three-year-old startup just completed a seed round in which they raised $2 million from Mark Cuban, Arrington Capital, and CMS Holdings, among others. Cuban said he invested because “everything is driven by fast and accurate access to data. Which is exactly what Esprezzo excels at. Their product is ‘fungibility at its best. It’s adaptable. It’s straightforward. It’s easy to configure and use.”

Smart contracts

Boston Blockchain Events Week of March 22, 2021

Smart contracts for government.

As blockchain technology fundamentally transforms financial markets and our entire monetary system, it seems our leaders have been slow to respond to the massive revolution taking place. Not so any longer, however, as Rep. Kate Lipper-Garabedian, representing the 32nd Middlesex district in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, recently introduced a bill proposing a special commission on blockchain and cryptocurrency (House Docket 2065). Naturally, we at the BBA applaud this initiative and would like to recognize Rep. Lipper-Garabedian for her leadership in this fast-growing industry. At last, there is government recognition that blockchain is transforming industries as diverse as communications, healthcare, supply chain—not to mention government itself.

****In order to comply with MA law, the candidate must receive some sort of school credit in order to participate in this opportunity. It is up to the student to arrange this with their institution.

The ideal candidate would know enough about the blockchain space to do any of the following if asked:

-take accurate notes at our monthly pitch events and summarize main points

-communicate with startups and outreach to university student groups/clubs active in the blockchain space to help establish partnerships and source deals

-help put together monthly educational events for our angel investor members

This candidate should also be familiar and comfortable with Twitter and LinkedIn to make regular posts/tweets to the Chain Reaction account and to help build the follower numbers and add relevant groups/leaders to follow.

The candidate must be available the first Tuesday of the month @4-5:30pm when Chain Reaction holds monthly meetings, and have the maturity and character to keep information from these meetings confidential. While the workload varies based on the number of companies in diligence, interns can expect a minimum of five hours per week most weeks and up to 10 hours if there are a lot of companies in diligence. If you have a lot of time on your hands and want to do more there is plenty to keep the right candidate busy!

While this is an unpaid internship, this is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn more about the investment side of the startup world, see how an angel investment group works, and gain insight into how experienced investors make their decisions.

If this sounds like you, please send your CV and in place of a cover letter an email conveying your interest and experience to chainreactionboston@gmail.com.

Blockchain Platforms: Head-to-Head Comparisons

Thursday, March 4, 2021, 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM EST

Blockchain platforms are proliferating. But which one is best? It depends on how we define “best,” because blockchain platforms are beginning to specialize in specific industries and use cases. In this panel, we’ll have a side-by-side comparison of some of the leading blockchain platforms, including Ethereum, Hyperledger, Algorand, and Polkadot. Whether your role is technical or business application-focused, this event will be entertaining and informative — and help you make smart choices about the platform that will best meet your needs.

Question: Do you have a pre-seed or seed-stage blockchain startup that is looking for angel capital and networks to take your company to the next stage?

Chain Reaction, a Boston-based blockchain angel group, is currently taking applications for investment. Investments range from 25K to 125K+ and you can expect to hear back within two weeks of your application about the next steps. Chain Reaction is also seeking an intern as part of the expansion of their angel group. You can read more about Chain Reaction here: www.chainreactionboston.com

****In order to comply with MA law, the candidate must receive some sort of school credit in order to participate in this opportunity. It is up to the student to arrange this with their institution.

The ideal candidate would know enough about the blockchain space to do any of the following if asked:

  • take accurate notes at our monthly pitch events and summarize main points
  • communicate with startups and outreach to university student groups/clubs active in the blockchain space to help establish partnerships and source deals
  • help put together monthly educational events for our angel investor members

This candidate should also be familiar and comfortable with Twitter and LinkedIn to make regular posts/tweets to the Chain Reaction account and help build the follower numbers and add relevant groups/leaders to follow.

CR is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Organization.
